New Years Eve Hair

Very rarely do I take the time to actually do my hair. I'm fairly low maintenance in that regard, or possibly, lazy. Since my hair is so long, and it's so time consuming just brushing through it, I think that that qualifies as doing my hair. Leaving it to air dry or putting it up in a top knot will not do today though; no, not on New Year's Eve, it must be done! This is the night to start off with good habits for the year. So, on NYE, my hair will be styled!

My New Year's Eve hair tutorial is the final post in the three part series for my holiday look. It has all come together in time for the big day. If you haven't already viewed my other two posts, you still have time. Be sure to check out those posts to see my outfit and my makeup that I'll be wearing tonight.

I envy straight hair... mine is naturally curly. Since my hair is so long now, the sheer weight of it pulls out a lot of its curl, and makes it more wavy, or even straight. I still consider it a bit of a luxury to have straight hair because I have to spend the time using a heating tool to get it that way. Since NYE is a special occasion, I decided that it would be well worth the time invested in doing my hair.

New Years Eve Makeup Look

When I think of getting ready for holiday parties, I am most excited for my makeup. The holidays are a time when you can be more adventurous, bold, and daring. Don't be afraid to add some drama and definitely don't shy away from glitter!

As promised in my last post, New Year's Eve Party Look, I will be going over my makeup for NYE today. Be sure to check back Monday to find out how I did my hair. I have done a warm, gray smokey eye look with touches of fine glitter to catch the light. Although it may be a little intimidating, I think smokey eyes are an easy look to recreate because you don't have to be super precise; it's okay if it's not perfect.

To get started, lets go over what products I used. Keep in mind, to recreate this look yourself you don't need to have these exact colors or products. Check your own collection for similar shades or stop by your local drugstore for inexpensive alternatives; all the products I used are drugstore items.

New Years Eve Party Look

I can't believe that Christmas has come and gone and now the New Year is less than a week away. How did this year go by so fast? I thought I would have more time to do holiday posts, but I'll be cutting it close.

I want to show a New Year's Eve Party look in detail without creating one massive post, so I'll be breaking it down into three parts. Today I'll go over the outfit, Friday I'll talk about the the makeup for my look, and Monday (NYE) I'll go over the hair, all in detail. Be sure to check back for those posts to see how to complete the look. Until then, let's talk about the outfit!

Nail of the Day: Silver French Tips

I recently saw Emily of Beauty Broadcast do a festive french tip gel manicure on her blog. I wanted to give it a try myself because I really liked the look and thought it would be fun for the holidays. While I don't have a gel kit, I decided to attempt it with regular nail polish and hope that it looks great for both Christmas and New Years Eve.

I decided to shop my stash and search for polishes that would help me achieve a silver and festive nail look.

Nicole by OPI Gone Platinum

I came across Gone Platinum from Nicole by OPI to paint my tips. This color is a pretty light silver that at certain angles looks a holographic white. I have no idea how old this nail polish, is but it's past its prime for sure. That said, I was able to make it work and applied one thin coat in a strip across the tips of my nails.

OPI Bubble Bath

To fill in my nails (all but the tips), I used OPI's Bubble Bath. This is my 'go to' nail color because one coat give nails a natural, but healthy shine.

Lastly, I topped off the entire nail with a clear top coat. If you have read any of my other NOTD you know that this is a step I usually skip, but I've finally included it! I decided since I didn't have one continuous color over the whole nail, a top coat would be a good idea.

What polish will you be wearing for the holidays?

Fossil Haul

I'm the type of person that has a running wish list in my head, but I never write it down. If someone asks me what I want for my birthday or Christmas my mind will go completely blank, I'll have forgotten my list ever existed, and I'll say, "Oh, there's nothing that I want or need." Is anyone else like this?

One item that I've had on this wish list of mine is a large faced watch. It's something that I have wanted for well over a year now. I admire other people's  from afar, "window shopped" online, and try them on in stores. I've tried on so many watches, in many different price ranges, and even some that are way beyond my means (a girl can dream). Nothing had really wowed me. Well, let me clarify, almost all of them impressed me, that is, until I put them on my wrist, then I was less than impressed.

That all changed when I returned to the Fossil store this week to buy a few items for eBay. I had been there a few weeks ago to buy a Christmas gift, and while there, I tried on a few watches that I liked, but they just weren't for me. On this visit I found a few watches that I didn't see the last time, and I decided to try again. My search is over- I have found the one. I treated myself and crossed off an item from my list.

Fossil Stella Faux Tortoise Glitz Watch, Fossil CZ Bracelet, Tiffany & Co Ball Bracelet, Fossil Pave Link Bracelet

I bought myself the Fossil Stella Faux Tortoise Glitz Multifunction Watch. It has a tortoise resin band with a large multifunction face. On my previous visit to the store, I tried on one almost identical, but the face was dark brown. Although I liked the watch, there was something that wasn't right. As it turns out, it was the color of the face. My new watch has a white face with mother of pearl Day, Date, and 24-Hour Analog dials and surrounding the the face is, oh-so-sparkly, crystals. I adore it! It goes great with my silver bracelets that I wear just about every day.

OOTD: Coral

Today was another fairly casual day, just out doing some shopping and waiting in the massive line at the post office. I wanted to be comfortable, but also needed a little pick me up. I decided to use bright cheerful accessories to help make me feel a little better. One of my favorite colors is coral and this OOTD has several different shades of it and I think it's lots of fun.

Top: Forever21 light coral v-neck tee, Bottoms: skinny jeans, Purse: Coach black leather bag, Shoes: Margaretaville boat shoes

I tend to wear jeans and tees a lot. It's my go-to; what I feel most comfortable and most myself in. Today was no exception. I wore a light coral v-neck top with skinny jeans.

Bath & Body Works Haul!

I had just been to Bath & Body Works a little over a week ago to pick up some bath products for Christmas gifts. I had a coupon for a free item so I got myself a Twisted Peppermint candle, thinking that this would be the last of the candle shopping that I would be doing for a while. With my purchase, I received a coupon for $10 off a purchase of $30 or more. I figured that I'd hold onto it just in case I needed to pick up another gift.

Then, I got an email this past Friday from B&BW: All 3-Wick Candles $8 - In Stores Today Only! The regular price for their 3-Wick (14.5 oz) candles is $20 a piece, but often go on sale at 2 for $22 or 2 for $20. I knew that I'd be making a trip into the store before the day was done. By 5 PM, when I arrived, there were barely any candles left on the shelves and display tables. You would have thought they were giving the candles away! Lucky for me, I was able to find the scents I wanted and walked out a very happy camper.

Nail of the Day: OPI Crimson Carol

My last manicure looked great for one week, to the day, before it chipped beyond repair. I was pretty impressed considering I don't go easy on my nails, and if you read my last NOTD post, you know that I skipped a top coat. I'd say that was pretty good.

OPI Crimson Carol

Today's NOTD is OPI's Crimson Carol. Since this week I'm celebrating the holidays with my mom (who's in town for the week), I thought I'd wear a festive holiday polish. I've had this polish for possibly two years now, and it has remained one of my favorite winter shades. I love that this red has a hint of a pink hue, and I can't forget to mention that it also has fiery red and gold glitter in it which makes it a bit more unique. I love all the sparkle and it goes great with most holiday looks.

I applied a clear base coat to protect my nails from potential staining and then applied 2 thin coats of Crimson Carol. Since last weeks polish held up so well, I figured I'd skip the top coat again.

What is your favorite polish color to wear for the holidays?

Holly Jolly Holiday Tag 2

I've been seeing a lot of holiday tag videos on YouTube lately. One of my favorites that has helped get me excited for the Christmas season is the Holly Jolly Holiday Tag 2. This tag was started last year (Holly Jolly Holiday Tag) by beautybaby44 and strawverryelectric48 and they came out with a new tag for the 2012 holiday season (Tag 2).

This year I won't be home with my parents for Christmas. However, my mom is in town this week and we have decided to have an early Christmas celebration before she goes back home. To help get my head in the game I thought, "what better way than to do the Holly Jolly Holiday Tag 2 today!" Feel free to answer these questions too.

DIY Bow Bracelet

DIY Bow Bracelet
I enjoy crafting and I love to make my own jewelry. I came across this Bow Bracelet on Pinterest and thought, 'I must make that... now!' From the pinned picture, I thought it looked fairly simple to make, so I decided I'd give it a shot. If you'd like to see the original post and pictures for the inspiration for my own DIY Bow Bracelet, check out the The Quiet Lion. Keep reading if you'd like to find out how I made mine.

OOTD: Berry Sweater

I wasn't planning on doing an OOTD today since I was just running errands, but since I'm wearing one of my recent purchases (from my Target haul) I thought, why not?

Top: Forever21 white teeMossimo berry knit fly away sweater, Pants: Cello skinny jeans, Shoes: Rainbow double arch in brown, Purse: Fossil bag

I get really cold inside with the AC, but with the weather being warmer this week, I thaw out as soon as I get out into the sun. Since I was going to be in and out of stores, I needed to layer to handle the frequent changes in temperature. I'm wearing a short sleeve white v-neck tee shirt with my new berry knit fly away sweater (as seen in my Target haul). This sweater feels cozy and comfortable. I'm really liking this color too, and it just so happens to match my nails (OPI Dim Sum Plum).

Nail of the Day: OPI Dim Sum Plum

My nails were in need of some TLC so I decided to give myself a manicure. I went with OPI's Dim Sum Plum. It's a pretty purple- pink color. It reminds me of a deeper and darker version of one of my favorite OPI  colors, Pink Flamenco. I'm loving this one too. While I wear Pink Flamenco a lot during the spring and summer, I think this is a great color for fall and winter.

OPI Dim Sum Plum

I applied a clear base coat and two coats of color to my nails, but I skipped the top coat. Maybe I'll get around to it later or, maybe not. I'm so bad about applying the top coat. By the time all my other layers (the necessary layers) are done drying I don't really want to sit around and wait for one more to dry. Any of you feel that way too?

What's your NOTD?

Target Haul!

I was just running into Target for Cascade dishwasher tabs, but I walked out having spent way more than I intended. Really, one item turned into jewelry, shoes, clothes, in addition to what I went in for! I'm not sure how this happens. I honestly believed that going into the store without grabbing a shopping cart or basket would be the answer to cutting back on the extra buying. Nope. Target has great prices and I usually save money shopping there; that is as long as I can avoid temptation and practice self control.

What's In My Bag?

I'm a big fan of the 'What's In My Bag?' tag. I love reading people's posts or watching their videos exposing what's in their bag. I'm just curious to know what other people carry around with them and these posts make it super convenient (and legal) to snoop.

For those of you out there who have that same curiosity, here's a little insight into my life via my bag.

Jewelry Haul

I have a weakness for jewelry. There's something about shinny things that I can't resist.

I've recently picked up a few new pieces of jewelry from Target, Forever21, and Kohl's and wanted to do a collective jewelry haul.

Clockwise from top Left: Target earrings; $3.98, Lauren Conrad necklace from Kohl's; $28.00, Forever21 black and white earrings; $4.80, Forever21 blue and silver earrings; $5.80.

Black Friday & Cyber Monday Sale

Black Friday is tomorrow and Cyber Monday is right around the corner. I am more of a Cyber Monday shopper myself. There are great deals on Black Friday but you have to battle swarms of people to get them. If you wait a few days until Cyber Monday you can shop from the comfort of your own home or office.

Some of you may know from reading my "About Me" post that I sell on eBay. I am excited to be taking part in Black Friday and Cyber Monday as not only a buyer but, also, a seller this year too! I wanted to share with you that I will be having my very own Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sale where I will be discounting some of my top items, including designer handbags!

I will be offering a 10% discount on all Coach, Betsey Johnson, and candles and home fragrance items. I have a number of designer handbags and accessories listed so be sure to check those out!

Thanksgiving OOTD

Hey everyone! Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday.

Top: Ann Taylor Loft 3/4 length sleeved v-neck sweater, Pants: Cello skinny jeans, Shoes: Extreme by Eddie Marc boots, Bag: Fossil purse, Jewelry: gold, silver, and diamond hoop earrings, New York & Co silver and gold 3 tier necklace, silver twisted bracelet, Tiffany & Co heart bracelet, David Yurman toggle heart bracelet.

I wanted to do a quick Outfit of the Day post to show you what I am wearing on this Thanksgiving. Just as a refresher, I live in Florida. Although it has been a bit cooler lately, I don't need to be all bundled up like I have the past several years when I was living in Pennsylvania.

Maybelline Volum' Express One by One Mascara

My tube of Maybelline Volum' Express One by One mascara is on its last leg and I will hate to have to toss it out. This product took some time for me to develop warm fuzzy feelings for, but I eventually grew to love it (with some reservation).

Maybelline Volum' Express One by One Mascara

What initially drew me to the One by One mascara was the packaging. Yes, I admit it, the bright colored packaging got me; I love this coral pink color. One look at it and I thought, I have to have it! I guess it also helped that I trust Maybelline, I enjoy using their other product lines, and oh yeah, the price was right.

I knew I had used Maybelline mascara before but couldn't remember why I hadn't ever repurchased it. The second I opened the tube it all came back to me, they smell… bad! Now, I understand this is debatable. Everyone I’ve talked with about it said they don’t think Maybelline mascaras have a smell, but I knew I wasn’t imagining it. In fact, the smell was so strong to me that every time I used it I ended up with a headache. I decided to search Google to see if anyone out there in the cyber webs had similar complaints and just as I had suspected, I am not alone. There are plenty more people out there that can detect a smell too. While I can’t describe what it smells like, I can say it doesn’t smell like perfume or mascara that has gone bad. Regardless, it's not a good smell. Thankfully, with this particular tube, within a month the smell started to fade and was more tolerable.

Even though the smell was bothering me, I decided to give it a try because I really wanted to test out the mascara wand and see if it worked the way it said it would. The wand, called the Lash Catcher, was designed to separate each lash while providing volume. It has silicone bristles and a very flexible tip. This has to be the most flexible wand that I’ve ever used and it took some time to adjust to. You could say I had a bit of a love/hate relationship with the wand at first because while it wasn’t my favorite, the actual silicone bristles were perfect! They did just what they said they would: they separated my lashes and kept them from clumping together. I was able to achieve my desired look with just one coat of mascara.

Outfit Of The Day

I love Outfit of the Day (OOTD) posts. I think they’re a great way to get ideas for selecting items and pulling a style together since you can see a completed look. I plan on doing OOTD often so I can share with you what I'm wearing any given day. In these posts you can expect to see photos and details on my outfit and accessories and where I was going wearing these outfits.

In my last post on the  Oxblood trend I mentioned that I just bought a pair of oxblood (or burgundy) pants. Now today I wanted to share with you how I styled them when I went out to dinner.

Top: Fun & Flirt button down top, and The Limited camisole, Pants: Ci Sono, Shoes: Nine West black peep toe wedges, Bag: Coach plaid pleated front wristlet, Jewelry: small silver hoops.

Oxblood

If you've picked up a fashion magazine or clicked through a fashion blog recently I'm sure you have seen and are now familiar with the word “Oxblood”. It’s this seasons "it" color. I'm not crazy about the name; it doesn't conjure up the best mental images, now does it?  Getting past that, I love this color. I'm a fan of red; almost all shades. I feel the bolder the better. This deep burgundy or wine red color is a favorite of mine this season. I love how rich this color is. There are so many different shades and interpretations there really is something to suite most tastes and skin tones.

Clockwise from Top Left Corner: New York & Co Ribbed Boatneck Sweater; $49.95 and Colored Skinny Leg Jeans; $59.95, New York & Co Lurex Knit Belted Sweater Dress; $64.95, New York & Co Colorblock Sheath Dress with Belt; $64.95, New York & Co Dangling Orbs Bib Necklace; $24.95, New York & Co Faceted Triple Drop Earrings; $14.95, Forever21 Pleated A-Line Blouse; $24.80, Forever21 Essential Perma-Creased Trousers; $22.80, Target Merona Opaque Tights; $8, Target Hailey Jeans Co Suede T-strap Round Toe Pumps; $34.99.

About Me

Hi everyone! Welcome to my blog!

I recently moved back to Florida, where I was born and raised. I was living in in Pennsylvania for the past few years but, I was really missing my home state so I decided to pack up and move out! I've had lots of fun with the transition getting to decorate and re-organized in my new space. I'm finally feeling settled in my new place. In addition to my move, I also recently started selling accessories and beauty items, as well as some other items on eBay. While I'm still new to selling, I'm really enjoying it.

I have wanted to start a blog for quite some time now but, for one reason or another, have just never done it. With so many new things in my life I thought this was a great time to start blogging.

I still consider myself relatively new to makeup. I almost never wore it when I was in high school and didn’t start really experimenting with it until college. Have any of you ever felt like you were absent from class the day an important lesson was taught? That’s how I felt with makeup; I was inexperienced and I was surrounded by girls that were makeup application experts that received an ‘A’ on their final. That all changed when I discovered YouTube. It was as if someone just handed me Cliffs Notes! The beauty community on YouTube helped to show me that makeup and beauty can be fun, not torture.
